I just hope they remember…
After all the craziness of the day. After all the laundry has been put away and all the dishes done. After the rooms are cleaned up and toys are put back in place. I just hope my kids remember that it was a good day. It was a day filled with laughs and giggles. Time spent together trying talking and playing made up games.
I don’t want them to forget the way they helped each other get the table set for dinner. I don’t want them to forget how the water spilled and they worked together to clean it up. I don’t want them to forget the slurping sound that made them all laugh when we ate our spaghetti.
I want them to close their eyes in forty years and be able to picture our family table as it is right now. I want them to see spaghetti stains on their napkins and grins on their siblings faces. I want them to remember their father and I listening to their silly story about the game they played downstairs, asking questions and trying to figure out what it was that they were so entertained by.
My hope in life is that we leave our children with great family memories. That they can look back on their childhood and see how wonderful it was. We may not have all the money in the world to grant their every want or take them on fancy vacations. But we gave them each other. Built in friends that they are able share fun times with.
I want them to be able to stay close as they grow into adulthood. To remain friends as well as siblings. Life takes people in many directions, I hope they always hold onto the map that brings them back together.
